RGHS Weekly Bulletin 24 January 2019

Thank you to each one of our parents and learners who attended the Grades 8-12 Parents' Meetings over the past two weeks.  It is important that we work as a partnership in the teaching and learning processes.  I hope that these sessions once again demonstrated how much learning happens,  even beyond the classroom.

I would like to acknowledge all the visible and behind-the-scenes work done by my two Deputy Principals, Ms Schnetler and Ms Blackshaw, as well as the rest of the Management Team, in ensuring a smooth start to 2019. Thank you.

Over the past two weeks there might have been some frustration at the slow entry into the school at times.  Please note that this is because we prioritise your daughter’s safety.  For this reason, it is important that each vehicle either signs in or has its entry sticker clearly displayed.  We are also actively looking into ways to ease the traffic flow.  Please read the notice below which has some ideas that could help relieve this stress.

This term saw the introduction of our first mobile-free days, to encourage everyone at school to take time away from their phones and to have conversations.  Hopefully this has sparked some interesting conversations at home.  In this new technological age, the immensely useful gadgets we have can so easily steal our time away from others.

Please do make time for a visit to the arena at the V&A Eaterfront on Friday or Saturday.  Our girls have collaborated with other schools to help raise money for Habitat for Humanity, a very worthy cause.  There are some lovely raffle prizes and opportunities for you to participate in the Cyclathon and meet up with other Rustenburg families.

SAVE THE DATE: This year we are celebrating the 125th anniversary of Rustenburg Girls’ High School with the motto: ‘Looking forward – Giving Back’.  We are organising a prestigious music concert on 14 March to celebrate.  All profits from this event will go towards the Mitchell’s Plain Music Academy to help uplift music education in the community.  Tickets will go on sale soon. If you have any musical instruments in good condition that you want to donate to the Mitchell’s Plain Music Academy, these will be collected on the evening as well.

On 15 March past pupils will meet for a lunch after our 125th celebration assembly.  Current mothers and their daughters as also invited to attend this event. Profits will go towards the Rustenburg Girls’ School Bursary Fund.  Spaces are limited so please keep an eye open for when tickets go on sale.

Regards
Michael Gates

The Grade 8s had a lot of fun at the Grade 8 Evening while their parents attended an information session in the Kemp Hall. Each class was given two cakes and they had to win games to earn cake decorations. Once they had completed the games and finished decorating, the cakes were judged by the prefects.
