RGHS Weekly Bulletin 23 July 2020

Dear RGHS Families

Just as it started to feel that we were finally settling into a routine that works for the girls and the staff at school, we need to address the issue of safety and appeal to your kindness and generosity once again.

Please reinforce with your daughter the need to be vigilant and aware of one’s surroundings.  Three members of our staff were assaulted and robbed recently: one of our cleaning staff while walking her little girl to school, and two grounds staff in a taxi they caught on the Rondebosch Main Road.  They obviously experienced terrible trauma, but they were also robbed of their valuables and we feel that we need to do our level best to assist them.

We appeal to those who can, to consider donating to the school any old or unused mobile phones with access to WhatsApp (and their chargers).  Once we have helped out the above-mentioned staff, our IT Department will keep any other donated phones safe, and we would be able to assist others if and when it is needed.  We are all reliant on mobile phones to keep us connected when we are in a perilous situation.

A reminder of the processes we have in place for your child’s safety. We do not allow strangers on site. We do not allow access to parents or past learners into the school building unless they have an appointment.  Drivers of delivery vehicles are required to sign in and have their temperature taken before proceeding and are met by those to whom they are delivering.  Our 24-hour security is constantly vigilant and has your child’s safety as a priority.

Associated with this is a further request.  Our Reception does not take delivery of clothing, lunch boxes, books or bags.  You may leave these items on the table in the entrance foyer and message your daughter to collect directly from there.  We cannot take responsibility for such items.

While we want our Rustenburg families to feel welcome on campus, my primary concern is for the heightened safety of the learners and the people who work and live on site during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I ask again that if your child is ill, or someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19, that she makes use of the online learning facility during the required isolation period.  There are WCED forms that must be completed in this case and are available by contacting reception@rghs.org.za.  If your daughter is well and has no comorbidities then it is, however, best that she is at school and participating in the live lessons and interacting with her peers.

Please be assured of our continued commitment to your child’s safety and academic progress.
