Dear RGHS Parents and girls

Over the past two weeks, I have been privileged to see many of you interacting with your daughters either at the Parent’s Evening, the Matric Farewell drinks, in the car-park, at the hostel or sports fields. My heart has been warmed to see such support for your daughters and I want to encourage you to continue being their champion and supporting them. Most girls tend to put enough pressure on themselves and look to you for your understanding and support during stressful times. Keep hugging them and listen to their experiences; they might not always appreciate or like it now, but it is what will help shape their futures.

The Matric Farewell is always such a lovely evening with all the smiles, laughter, glitz and glamour. Thank you to Meganne Steyn and her Grade 11 dance committee who worked hard to make the evening a wonderful success. Thanks also to Ms Blanc-Marquis and Ms Brown for their support of and guidance to the committee.

This evening, we mark the official switch-on of the Water Purification Plant. Ms Debbie Schaeffer (Minster of Education) will be cutting the ribbon in support of our sustainability efforts. The purified water has been used in school since 4pm yesterday afternoon, already saving us just on 15 000 litres of municipal water. During level 6B restrictions we will retain our water saving initiatives and on top of the savings this makes, we will be saving an additional 360 000 litres of municipal water each month. Thank you very much to Mr Myles Siebrits (Campus Manager), Mr Len Worthington-Smith (Parent) and Mr Stephen Nicholas (Campus Supervisor) for the time and attention they have put into making this project a reality. We are also very grateful for all the financial contributions that parents and staff have made to this project along with an anonymous R70 000 donation from a past pupil. Donations can still be made via the Bursars office to help with the R230 000 still needed. The Golf Day and Music Auction will also contribute towards this total, so please give them your support (see below).
