Dear RGHS Parents and girls

A very big welcome to all our new learners and their parents/guardians.

It is with great pleasure that I can inform you that our 2017 NSC learners achieved excellent results, placing us as the top public girls’ school in the province.

These results include a 100% pass rate and 99.4% Bachelors Passes.  The girls bagged a total of 631 subject distinctions between them and achieved an aggregate of 77.5%.  Congratulations to the learners and all the staff who played a role in helping the girls achieve their goals.

As a school we are sad for the loss of Mrs Pam van Dyk (Hostel Superintendent) who passed away on 26 December 2017 and Mrs Lisa Williams (Hostel Kitchen Assistant) who passed away on 30 December 2017.  Our thoughts and prayers are with their families and close friends.

We welcome our new members of staff, Ms Gideon (Accounting), Ms Voskuil (Accounting), Ms Keagan (Maths), Ms Dyonase (Maths), Mr Alard (Life Sciences), Ms Tame (Library), Ms Campbell (English) and Ms Oosthuizen (Afrikaans).  We also welcome back Ms Gail Wallace who is doing maternity cover for Mrs De Klerk for the first portion of 2018.

We are very excited that the school, at last, has a fibre connection to the internet and we are in the process of setting up the infrastructure to ensure this enhances learning at school.

Thank you to everyone who has made contributions to our water purification project. To date we have raised an amazing R417 000.  If you would like to help us reach the R800 000 goal, then please do donate by using Snapscan or by arranging with the Bursar’s office to include an extra amount to your monthly direct debit.

I wish each of our learners a wonderful year ahead and trust they will make use of all the good opportunities that come their way.

Michael Gates

Important Notices

  • Traffic and parking on the Rustenburg Campus
Parents are reminded not to park on yellow lines or in the road next to parking bays, or in such a way that obstructs the flow of traffic (even temporarily).

Grade 8 & 9 students must be dropped off and collected at the back of the school, near the tennis courts. Grade 10-12 students must be dropped off and collected at the front of the school. This will assist in the smooth flow of traffic around campus.

Please be aware that the pedestrian gate to Grosvenor Road and the sub-way under Liesbeek Parkway are both open from 7:10 - 7:50 in the morning and for 30 minutes at the end of the school day to allow for off-site drop-off and collection of your daughter.
  • Please could we request that if you have any queries about matters arising at school that you have a chat with the staff member concerned as this can often help clear up misunderstandings very quickly.  Your first port of call should always be the Subject teacher for Academic matters or the Form tutor for pastoral matters.  If they are unable to help,  they will escalate the matter up to the next person who could help.  We want to work in partnership with you as parents to ensure the very best for your daughter.
  • Parent Volunteers:
At the beginning of every year we ask for assistance with the various activities at school. As parents, we have to work as a team and volunteer our services wherever we can to keep the school running as we expect. It cannot fall to a small group – it has to be an attitude of mind for us all, and something we will all do. If we combine our skills, talents, energy and enthusiasm, we will not only contribute to the on-going success of our school but will also build a wonderfully unified parent body and, at the same time, have a great deal of fun.
Please click on the link below to sign up and help -
  • Updating of Parent Details
We have switched to a new Management Information System this year and we will not be sending parents the usual Parent Details Form to check that your details are correct. Later this year we will be launching a Parent Portal so that you can update your details yourselves and have access to your daughter's information. Please email if you have an urgent change of information.

Music Notes

Over the December holidays, Kaitlin Downie attended the South African National Youth Orchestra course in Johannesburg. Auditions took place in March 2017 across the country and she had to prepare a solo piece above grade 7 level and a study. Of the 100s that auditioned, only 70 people nationwide were chosen and of those 70 people, about 25 violins were chosen.  She was honoured to be part of the 25 violins. Read further...

2018 Habitat for Humanity Cyclathon

The 25-hour Cyclathon takes place at the V&A Waterfront from Friday 26 January at 4pm to Saturday 27 January at 5pm.

Parents are invited to come and support and even cycle with your daughters. Please jump onto a bike and have some fun! The family that cycles the most hours or the family that is able to influence other families at the school to form a team for Rustenburg will be rewarded.  Raffle tickets will be on sale @ R20 and there are some amazing prizes to be won. Your support will help provide a home for a very special family.

Thank you to those of you who have donated the fantastic prizes. Our school has taken leadership in organising, funding and promoting this event and will provide the first 5 hours of entertainment on Friday. Thank you for always encouraging your daughters to help others!
