What's Happening

Are you interested in learning more about Saskatoon Search and Rescue? Or, if you want to join SSAR and take the Basic Searcher Course starting at the end of August and have not yet attended a Prospective Members' Meeting, the next one is being held July 8 at 7:30 pm at the Fire Training Centre, 116 Ave W South. Please join us!

picnicWe had a great turnout for our SSAR family picnic on June 1. Many thanks to Rebecca Basset for organizing and to Sean Taylor for taking photos. Kids and adults alike had a great time!

Shelley Ballard-McKinlay and Rebecca Basset attended an Advanced Wilderness First Aid Course in Canmore June 4-12, put on by Slipstream Wilderness First Aid. Highly recommended! They're bringing back some new and interesting ideas for first aid training and scenarios for SSAR.

During the Past Month

evidence searchOn May 30 SSAR members were put on standby by RCMP for a search near Grenfell, SK. SAR chapters in southern SK were activated to search for a 35-year-old man missing from Regina. He was later located and found to be safe.

On June 10 SSAR was activated to assist the RCMP with an evidence search for human remains near Punnichy.

On June 24 members were again activated for an evidence search just outside of Saskatoon in relation to a homicide investigation.

Follow up from last month: Five members of SSAR attended on May 27 and joined forces with SAR members from Regina and Moose Jaw to search for Kelly Allary, 17 years, missing from the Ochapowace First Nation near Broadview, SK. His body has now been located.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to to the families and friends of Kelly Allary, Fenton Albert and Lindey Sugar.
