Q Shelter's office will be closed from Friday 23 December and will reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2017
Welcome to the last edition of our Housing Matters newsletter for 2016!

Although the US election and Brexit dominated headlines this year, 2016 also saw big news and changes for our sector:
The Honourable Mick de Brenni MP commenced as the new Minister for Housing and Public Works

A new Housing Strategy for Queensland was developed (which saw Q Shelter facilitate consultation sessions with the housing and homelessness sector across the state )

Q Shelter's annual housing and homelessness conference was held in Cairns and featured international keynote speaker Dr. Sam Tsemberis

Q Shelter and the Brisbane Development Association partnered to host a corporate breakfast on developing housing for people with disability
This year also saw National Shelter and Homelessness Australia successfully campaign for an extension to the National Partnership Agreement on Homelessness (NPAH). I thank everybody who supported this campaign, and although the federal government has extended this agreement, I'm sure there will be a lot of work next year to develop a longer term strategy for funding homelessness services.

As we wrap up 2016, I want to acknowledge the Q Shelter Board of Management, our stakeholders in the Department of Housing and Public Works, the Honourable Mick de Brenni MP, as well as my colleagues across the sector for their support and guidance this year.

We all want to see better housing outcomes for those most in need across Queensland, and I look forward to continuing to work with you all next year to this end.

Have a great holiday season with friends and loved ones and see you in the New Year.

Leone Crayden
Executive Director

Homes for Homes

Homes for Homes is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established by Australia’s largest and most successful social enterprise, The Big Issue.

Homes for Homes has been established to tackle Australia's most significant social issue - a lack of affordable and social housing.

This social enterprise proposes to have homeowners make a commitment to donate a tax deductible 0.1% of their property price to Homes for Homes at the time they sell. For example, a $400,000 property transaction would mean a $400 contribution. Funds raised through Homes for Homes will go towards funding new affordable and social houses.
