Summer Fears!

Well the sun's out and it's summer and although it’s what we’ve all been looking forward to, it does bring its own challenges…Flying things of all sorts of shapes and sizes:  from wasps to planes - where did these fears or phobias come from and what to do?

A phobia is generally an irrational fear of sheer panic, beyond self-control and reason; the cause can go way back to a significant event or may stem from just a small remark that has lodged itself in the subconscious mind

What buzzes, is black and yellow and goes along the bottom of the sea?

...A wasp in a submarine!

If only that's where they were, as the moment the sun comes out, so do they!

The fear of bees or wasps has the grand name melissophobia or entomophobia and although it may come about following a sting it is more likely to be a learnt behaviour.

Generally when a wasp comes our way...we flap at it and then...kill it...why?

Well, for most of us we learnt this 'wasp dance' by watching or observing someone else with this fear. This is called vicarious learning and is often passed onto children by their parents, carers, teachers or other children.

If we were stung, then this fear is a very reasonable one to have and really it doesn't matter where it's come from, it's very real and can be debilitating for the sufferer!

The combination of hypnotherapy and NLP can help you ban this kind of fear for good...and it might only take one session.

Airlines have become so cash-strapped, they charged me for my emotional baggage!

Is this you?

A fear of flying could be several fears packaged as one: such as a fear of being in an enclosed space, a fear of heights or a fear of not being in control! This fear goes under the heading of  aerophobia, aviatophobia, or aviophobia.

Like all fears and phobias the cause maybe be something different, but the fear is genuine, creating mild anxiety that may escalate into a full blown panic attack.

This often gets out of proportion over time, as we convince ourselves that something will go wrong!

We're often told that flying is the safest form of transport per mile traveled, the problem is that when something goes wrong it makes headline news, so the media is often responsible for the fear!

However, hypnotherapy combined with NLP will:
  • Explore the fear
  • Reinforce positive messages
  • Walk through the flying experience from packing to landing
  • Provide anchors and strategies to enable that holiday dream to come true

Summer breeze...

It's really worth remembering that whatever you fear, could be a symptom of something else that's going on in your life that is consciously or subconsciously making you unhappy or worried.

When we were 'hunter gathers' fear was useful to prepare the body to flee from danger. Fear increases adrenaline, which causes physical responses: such as an increase in heartbeat, breathing and blood pressure. Blood is pumped to muscle groups that prepare the body for physical action and skin sweats to keep the body cool. Some people might notice sensations in the stomach, head, chest, legs, or hands. These physical sensations can hit on various levels and once danger has passed all returns to normal.

However, today we often stay in this fight or flight state for long periods of time due to 'thing's' in our lives that we've decided to bury or ignore...the result total exhaustion!

Holidays, can be great stressors...spending time with the family, relationships, airports, flying, weather, money etc etc...if your holiday is making you panic, hypnotherapy may help you to take charge of your life again...So why not call me for a chat...what have you got to lose?
