The Magic of Paper Hinges:
Creating a Miniature Japanese Folding Screen

A Workshop with Shozo Sato

Saturday, June 22, 2013     9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Sunday, June 23, 2013       9:00 am to 4:00 pm

Join us for a very rare opportunity: a hands-on workshop creating a miniature Japanese folding screen with paper hinges. During the workshop you will create not just the screen, but also a calligraphy to mount on it. At the end of this two-day workshop you will have a very special work of art to enjoy yourself or give to a loved one. We are pleased to announce that this workshop is conducted by our very special guest, Shozo Sato, Japan House Director Emeritus.

You will learn the history and development of the folding screen in Asian culture, create a unique calligraphy to put on your screen (unless you have a different artwork you would like to mount), learn the ancient craft of the paper hinge, and spend time enjoying a delicious lunch each day with the other participants in the beauty of Japan House and its gardens.

Space is limited to only ten people so don't hesitate to reserve your spot.
No prior experience is required, and all materials are provided. Fee for two day workshop: $150, or $125 for Tomonokai members or students.

Call with any questions, or to make your reservation, at 217-244-9934.
