Why Adopt Open Educational Resources (OER)?

What is it and getting started

Have you heard about OER, but not really sure what it is or how to use them? Fear not! The University of Hawaii is already on its way to help you understand and benefit from OER. Keep an eye out on the University's evolving OER site to get the latest from free textbooks, examples of OER use and upcoming OER events. UH will be actively looking for faculty to lead the charge in reducing costs and sharing expertise so check the site often!

Open Pedagogy

Taking OER to the next step

If you are looking to contribute to the OER movement or interested in an instructional strategy that increases student engagement, consider "Open Pedagogy" approaches for your next class. Eliminating "disposable" assignments from classes and focusing students on creating deliverables with real world value can increase student motivation while exposing them to new ideas and communities. To see some great examples of the approach read this great post by
Dr. David Wiley!
