A Month of Discovery
Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to Saruni news and views, with exciting information coming from Samburu, the Masai Mara, Kenya and beyond. We had a very busy month in our Nairobi HQ; working on the relocation of Saruni Wild – our tented camp in the Mara – to its new, amazing spot on the border between Mara North and Lemek conservancies, and preparing many safaris for the coming months. We attended the famous travel fair ‘We Are Africa’ in Cape Town, whilst getting ready for what will be a busy season.

Happy reading,
Riccardo
The Maasai discover the Mara!
Saruni Mara recently organised a special safari for over 60 children from Ngoswani Primary School, located close to Saruni. These children are from the school's Wildlife Club and are the future conservationists of the Masai Mara - the world's most renowned game reserve. Our professional guides – often the relatives and the family friends of these students - took the children on an educational safari into Mara North Conservancy & Lemek Conservancy, teaching them the benefits of wildlife and conservation. Amazingly, for some maasai children it was their first time to visit the wilder part of the Mara and the first time that they experience what so many of you do when they travel to their own land!
Kenya talks to the World
Gearing up to the forthcoming historical visit by Barack Obama, not only US president but also 'son' of Kenya, the country is stepping up its connections with the world. CNN International will market the country's key tourist attractions with a large advertising campaign. China will launch its first direct air route to Africa: Southern Airlines will fly three times a week from Guangzhou to Nairobi. And if that's not enough, Kenya Airways is launching direct flights to and from Hanoi, Vietnam, using one of its new Dreamliners.
Stuart Butler's Walk with the Maasai
British writer and conservationist Stuart Butler, author of the Lonely Planet Guide to Kenya among other achievements, has started a 'Walk with the Maasai' fundraising  campaign that we support and we invite you to support too. In his own words: “I have set off on my walk through the Loita Hills and greater Mara region. Very excited about it now. The journey will start from the highest point of the Loita Hills, a remote, forested range east of the Masai Mara National Reserve before heading down to, and completely across, all the community and private conservancies bordering the Masai Mara reserve. Along the way he will be staying in as many Maasai villages as possible and meeting many people involved in conservation as well as leaders of the Maasai communities". The Walking with the Maasai website dedicated to the project is live, as is the Walking with the Maasai Facebook page. The blog and photo section of the website as well as the Facebook page will be updated frequently whilst Stuart is walking. He will also be keeping us all up-to-date via Twitter and Instagram. Good luck Stuart, see you at Saruni!
