It's time for the 2018 Durham Tire Recycling Drive! We are encouraging residents to tidy up and properly dispose of old tires that may hold standing water in order to prevent mosquito breeding and the diseases they may carry.

Tires are always accepted at the Durham Waste Disposal & Recycling Center, but only in quantities of five per visit. This is your opportunity to recycle larger quantities of unwanted tires you may have FOR FREE! Tires from businesses will not be accepted.

We also need about 20 strong volunteers to help move tires! Sign up for a shift here.

May is Bike Month! Established in 1956 by The League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to give biking a try. Check out some awesome opportunities to learn more about biking in Durham and enjoy a fun and eco-friendly form of transportation at the Bike Durham website!
Congratulations to the 2018 Golden Leaf Award Winners! We're so proud to say that we awarded the 2018 Keep Durham Beautiful Award to The Lavender House, a collaboration between City of Durham Parks and Recreation, City of Durham Recreation Advisory Commission, Northgate Park Neighborhood Association, Northgate Park Garden Club, and City of Durham Department of Public Works. Once the original home of the Museum of Life & Science, the house was irrevocably damaged by a flood and torn down in 2014. In the Fall of 2017, the remaining stone chimney, porch, and foundation were transformed into a lovely green public gathering and performance space. Read more about this project and the rest of the 2018 Golden Leaf Award Winners here!
