We've Almost Reached our Goal of 1,000 Trees!

With a few more tree plantings in sight, we are ahead of schedule on our goal to plant 1,000 trees in Durham this winter! Generous grants provided through the Duke Carbon Offsets Initiative, Delta Airlines, Duke Energy Foundation and many donations, have made this goal possible.

Including our planting in the Northbrook community (pictured) last weekend, to date 455 volunteers have helped plant 913 trees this season! This is what a community-wide effort looks like and we are so grateful for everyone who has helped from experienced tree planters to first-timers. Our volunteers took the time to preserve Durham's tree canopy and guarantee a source of clean air and water for the residents of these areas. If you want to be in on the action there are just a few tree plantings remaining.

Take action in your community!

UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES & EVENTS

We're hiring!

Keep Durham Beautiful is hiring a  Communications Specialist and Pollinator Program Coordinator! Both positions are part time and short-term, offering experience working with a small environmental nonprofit and connecting with the Durham community! Join our Pollinator Plant Grow Out Program!

You may have seen in the news that pollinators are on the decline due in part to loss of habitat and increased use of pesticides. These are the same pollinators that pollinate nearly 75% of crops worldwide including our favorite foods like strawberries, chocolate, and more! Now you can help by joining our Pollinator Plant Grow Out Program. Through this program participants will receive the materials to start pollinator plants form seed to grow out into plants. Once the plants have been nurtured to a transplantable size, we will host a plant swap for participants and disseminate the extra plants strategically around Durham to enhance the variety of nectar and pollen sources for our pollinator friends!

Pledge to #SkiptheStraw

Our STRAWS Documentary screening is currently sold out for this evening, but you can still take action! Show that you are committed to protecting our oceans and marine wildlife by making the pledge to #SkiptheStraw for the next month. The Straws Documentary will kick off Durham's month-long #SkiptheStrawDurham campaign.

Stand with us, our many partners, and Durham restaurnts to prevent single-use plastic like straws from polluting our waterways and planet.
