Clean and Green - Sat April 20, Saturday May 11
Join your neighbors and other community groups all around Chicago to take part in Chicago's Citywide Clean & Green Day on Saturday, April 20. If you and your neighbors want to participate, the City will provide brooms, rakes, shovels and bags to get the job done. Just call 3-1-1 to register.
Join Magnolia-Malden Neighbors and participate in our next Clean and Green on May 11. We'll be cleaning up, but are looking for "greening" projects. Submit requests to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Don't Forget to VOTE for how to spend the 1.3 Million in our WARD!
The community met, committees were formed and spent 5 months working on their top proposals. There were 2 community meetings presenting ALL the proposals from the committees, and now it's up to you! Starting Saturday, April 27th there will be Early Voting for your top choices on how to spend the 46th Ward's discretionary funds. Anyone 16 years and older who lives within the 46th Ward boundaries is eligible to vote. You can vote for your top six (6) projects. The projects getting the most votes will be funded, and the projects will be completed in order until the money runs out. Voting options are as follows:
(Ward Office, 4544 North Broadway)
Saturday April 27
9am - 12pm
Monday, April 29 - Friday May 3
9am - 5pm
Uplift Community High School, 900 West Wilson)
Saturday May 4
9am - 2pm
You can vote on safety and lighting projects, walkability and biking projects, beautification and public art projects, public information projects and more. The proposals run the gamut from practical projects like adding security cameras for local crime hot spots to a grand proposal to make a plaza out of the Sheridan/Montrose/Broadway intersection. You can view the projects at the Ward office (including a nifty diarama), or on-line at http://pbchicago.org/.46th-ward.html. Again, you have 6 votes (but they must be for different projects, not 6 for 1).
4706-4718 North Racine
There is a new owner of the courtyard building at 4706-4718 North Racine. This building has been neglected over the years, and this owner is working first on completing all the much needed maintenance and repairs, and then will start slowly rehabbing the units, as they become vacant. No one will be displaced during this process. These units will continue to remain affordable, and he is adding an additional 10 new garden units to the mix. He will be adding 1 or more I-Go stations, to the rear of the property, as well as a bike room for the residents.
4608-4632 North Malden
There was another meeting regarding the empty lot on the 4600 block of Malden. The developer's plan is to put up five (5) 10-unit, high-end condo, elevator buildings, in two (2) phases. He is requesting a zoning variance for the additional height needed for these buildings. There is opposition to this request. To see a copy of the plans, please visit the 46th Ward's website, or send an email to email@example.com
