State Director Visit

State Parks Director Dwayne Patterson visited Burke and McDowell Counties to see what is happening with the Fonta Flora State Trail.

He visited the future FFST trailhead off Lackey Town Road, the new Copper Ridge Trail (west of Camp Grier) and Oak Hill Park (FCNC project). Read More

Local Gov't Support

F3ST is grateful for the funding support we received from seven local governments – five by January 2020 and two for July 2021. These contributions are key in enabling our non-profit to operate through the end of the year with a part time executive director, which will in turn ensure our success. Accomplishments with Executive Director

Trail Class

F3ST Executive Director Beth Heile, Board Member Steve Pierce and Member Heath Cooper took part in the first ever Trail Class at McDowell Technical Community College. In this basic class, students learned Trail Types &  Experience,  Sustainable Trail Assessment & Maintenance, and Trail Safety with First Aid/CPR. New Trail Section

The City of Morganton has embraced the Fonta Flora State Trail marking the route in to town along Green Street with metal art and feathers on the sidewalk.

A one-mile section is under construction from the current FFST along their greenway to downtown.
