Snyder's Riders Monthly Tune-up

It's Already August...

If you haven't been to a Bike Night yet and checked in for your official Snyder's Riders shirt, this month is your chance. This August, look forward to some great events and the winner of the Ride Safe Contest. As always, thanks for being a Snyder's Riders member. Stay safe, and spread the word!

Have You Heard?

The House of Representatives recently passed Daniel’s Law, a bill introduced by a local representative to honor fellow rider Daniel Gallatin. Daniel, a Lawrence County resident, military veteran, and fireman, was tragically killed in May 2013 when a driver hit his motorcycle from behind while texting and driving. If approved, the law would increase penalties on distracted driving accidents. The law will now move to the Senate for consideration.

Hal Deily's Safety Prospective:
Absorb What is Useful

“Absorb what is useful” is a quote often associated with Bruce Lee and epitomizes his approach to life and martial arts. Considered highly controversial at the time, Bruce emphasized the search for knowledge through training in multiple styles and further believed everyone should have the opportunity to learn the “arts.”

So, how does this apply to motorcycling? Well, we can “absorb what is useful” by first constantly searching for our own “truth” in riding and skill development, beginning with our ongoing education. Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Programs offer courses for all types of riders at all stages of ability. So, when was the last time you took a rider training course or updated your “riding chops”? A rider training course becomes especially important when most of us are unable to enjoy our bikes all year-long, with many only riding sporadically during the season.

Ever participate in a “track day”? Wait – don’t have a sport bike? Breaking news: Most tracks offer training regardless of what type of bike you ride, enabling you to “absorb what is useful” by exploring your limits in a safe environment. Think you’re beyond the typical MSF course offerings? Think again. All skills are perishable and need constant refinement. Bruce Lee worked endlessly on improving his basics, stating, “I fear not the man who has practiced 1,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” Become that man or woman who seeks this master’s level of skill refinement.

Now, what’s your plan for “absorbing” in 2016? Consider taking a Rider Training Course, or better yet, take one a second time. Searching for more? Look into the StayinSafe.com program or ProRiderPittsburgh.com course for something different, challenging, and “street”-worthy! Both these programs have been featured in Thunder Roads Magazine during the past year – check out the June and September 2015 editions at ThunderRoadsPennsylvania.com.

Once you take that course, enter our “Ride Safe” Contest and get rewarded for “absorbing what is useful” and helping us all as “We Ride Alongside” in 2016. Find more information below.
