We are now either eleven or twelve days into the new year depending on when you read this. I wrote this when we were nine days in. So, I have a question for you; How is it going for you so far? I am going to be honest with you, so far this year has been some ups and some downs. It has been interesting. This year has already stretched me to points that I was not aware that I could go. So far this year, God has used me in ways that I did not think I was usable. So far, I can say that my relationship with God has grown. I am learning and growing closer to Him. I wonder about you? Have you drawn closer to God already this year? Have you been used by Him already this year to bless or be there for someone? If you feel like you might need some help in growing closer to God, I want to encourage you to come to Bible Studies (Monday and Thursday), join a Sunday School Class, grab a friend and start reading the Bible, or come up to the church and visit with me during the week. My door is always open, well when I am in it of course. What I hope you have read is, there are many different ways that you can draw closer to God this year. I was asked if I do New Year’s resolutions, my answer was no, because if it is important enough for me to do or change I should be willing to do it any time of the year. That even means on day nine or twelve of January. So I encourage you, if you need help with growing closer to God, ask for help, it's available.
“We never grow closer to God when we just live life. It takes deliberate pursuit and attentiveness”

As you know, every year we have a Chili Cook-Off to replenish the Elders’ In-Reach Fund. This year we have had a number of serious needs in our congregation that has left the Fund at a very low point. Perhaps you don’t know exactly what the In-Reach Fund is.
Our Out-reach funds go to many worthy agencies and causes in our community or even in our world. At the same time, we sometimes have members with a crisis or serious need that they cannot deal with. Examples from the past are things like prescriptions, new glasses, dental work, rent and utility bills. We have all had low periods in our lives where we could use a little financial help. That is the purpose of the In-Reach Fund. Only your Elder, the Chairperson of the Elders, and the pastor will ever know of your request.
The Elders of FCC are praying that you will participate by concocting your own chili, soup, or stew in your crock-pot, bringing it to the cook-off on January 29th AND that you will buy many raffle tickets for some great items (even a TV), and give generously to our love offering basket. Of course, you will have a lot of fun and fellowship as well as some great food.

SIGN UP FOR ALTAR FLOWERS
Thank you to all who have sponsored altar flowers this past year! Live floral arrangements enhance our worship services and are enjoyed by all of us. The new flower chart for 2017 has been posted outside the office where you may sign up to honor or remember someone - or for special occasions, such as birthdays and anniversaries. Flowers are purchased and arranged by members of the flower committee who volunteer their time to provide this service. The suggested donation is $25 for a basic arrangement and $35 or more for a special arrangement. You may take the flowers home after the 10:45 am worship service. We ask that you return the vases after you have enjoyed the flowers which allows us to reuse them. (This helps keep the costs down.)
