Hope:Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Trust:Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Psalm 9:10 Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you. Love: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. Enemies:Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Faith:2 Corinthians 5:7 For we live by faith, not by sight. Patience:2 Thessalonians 1:4-5Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. 5 All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. James 1:12 Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him. Leadership:Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. John 3:30He must become greater; I must become less.Titus 1:7-14 Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. 8 Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. 9 He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. Holy:1 Peter 1:15-16But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
As we start a new year, here is the list that was shared on Sunday. This list in not the only things that we should or need to grow in. I hope that everyone of us takes the time now to reflect and ask God in what areas we need to grow closer to being like Him in the upcoming year. My prayer and hope is that the list grows, that we grow closer to each other, and most importantly, closer to who God has created us to be.
Happy New Year!! Pastor Joe

SIGN UP FOR ALTAR FLOWERS
Thank you to all who have sponsored altar flowers this past year! Live floral arrangements enhance our worship services and are enjoyed by all of us. The new flower chart for 2017 has been posted outside the office where you may sign up to honor or remember someone - or for special occasions, such as birthdays and anniversaries. Flowers are purchased and arranged by members of the flower committee who volunteer their time to provide this service. The suggested donation is $25 for a basic arrangement and $35 or more for a special arrangement. You may take the flowers home after the 10:45 am worship service. We ask that you return the vases after you have enjoyed the flowers which allows us to reuse them. (This helps keep the costs down.)
