Summer 2014

Issue: 14

The future

As with many large projects there has been some delay in getting started with regeneration works at the Flaxmill Maltings. English Heritage, who own the buildings, are fully committed to seeing the project move forward. We hope to be able to bring more news before too long, and will keep you posted as soon as we know more.

Heritage Open Days 2014

Opening Times

  • Sat 13 September: 10:00-16:00
  • Sun 14 September: 10:00-16:00

Once again we will be opening the Flaxmill Maltings complex for the Heritage open days in September. Guided tours will be available at regular intervals throughout the weekend. There will be talks and presentations on the history and structure of the buildings as well as the proposed development of the site. A varied programme of events will be taking place over the weekend.

Explore the history of the Flax Mill by taking part in our hands-on art, textile and science based drop-in activities available throughout the day. There will be an art exhibition and live music on site. Refreshments will be available.

The Friends are supported by:

Flaxmill Maltings Open Mic Marathon.

We will be hosting an Our Big Gig music event at Flaxivity on the evening of Friday the 11th of July, creating a celebration for local contributors!

The event will be free to attend, offering five hours of music in an open mic format. There will be workshops, music and dance, local choirs, ukeleles, food, a bar and a festival atmosphere.

The fun starts at 6pm on the 11th of July and will take place in and around Flaxivity Youth Centre based in a disused glazing factory in front of the Flaxmill Maltings buildings.
