A RICH AND VARIED CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

As this year’s conference theme, we chose ‘Archives out of the box!’ With this title, we don’t just literally mean the travelling of archive material outside of the archive space, but also, in the figurative sense, the liberation from clichés such as ‘old’ and ‘irrelevant’. We even refer to the emancipation of the archivist, who has become an essential partner in the decision-making process of media organisations or – in the case of audiovisual archives outside broadcasting – an appreciated curator of online content on platforms of all kinds. It’s time to celebrate that new role and discuss, explore and conquer the new possibilities it brings.

FIAT/IFTA GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2022

The General Assembly of the International Federation of Television Archives (FIAT/IFTA) will take place on Wednesday, 5 October 2022, during the FIAT/IFTA World Conference held in Cape Town. Members unable to attend in person will have the option to join virtually.

As always, the main business of the General Assembly will include the election of the President of the Federation and the election of a maximum of six individuals from Full Member organisations to serve on the Executive Council. Members wishing to nominate themselves or others for these positions must fill out the official form (available on FIAT/IFTA's website).

The closing time for nominations is 11:30 SAST on 4 October 2022.

FIAT/IFTA'S VISIT TO CAPE TOWN

The FIAT/IFTA President and General Secretary visited Cape Town last week to arrange the last details for the 2022 FIAT/IFTA World Conference, in the excellent company of Kevan Jones of SACIA, this year's host.

Thank you to the Century City Conference Centre team and The Conference Company for a warm welcome and invaluable support in the planning of the Conference.
