Several new cinematic goodies to come and see this week.
Ema,  a film that's waited two years to hit screens, originally premiered at the Venice Film Festival in August of 2019. A lot's changed since then, but what hasn't is Ema's ability to totally wrap you up in the tension of its title character's life—a recently divorced dancer who was married to her choreographer, still works with him, and is struggling with her neglect of an adopted son. Soak it in, folks.

In need of more Jennifer Coolidge after the summer of The White Lotus? Swan Song casts her alongside a retired hairdresser (Udo Kier) who escapes from their nursing home to rediscover the joys of life. Also new this week from the director of Disney's Raya and The Last Dragon and executively produced by Star Wars' Kelly Marie Tran, is Summertime, an ode to LA's slam poetry community with an ensemble cast from Sundance 2020.

Cryptozoo delivers the weird this week from Sundance 2021, where it won the Innovator Award and features voice-acting from Michael Cera and Lake Bell.
