Immigration Newsbites

Giselle Carson, Business Immigration Attorney

Greetings!

A new twist to consular processing is social media information about the applicant and the sponsoring organization.

In one of our recent post-consular interview calls with a client, we asked, “How did it go?” She replied, "It all went well. The officer asked me a few questions, and he also said he had Googled me.”

In preparation for consular interviews and admission to the United States, it is now important to review your public social media profiles. They should contain information consistent with the intended purpose of travel and terms of the visa. And you should be prepared to answer questions regarding the information available on these sites.

Another issue that has become critically important is ensuring that the I-94 admission record is correct. To help you with all of these new challenges, we’re providing you with these news bites, which contain useful resources and FAQs related to travel abroad and admission to the United States as a foreign national.

You’ll also find some key information about business immigration and an update about our community involvement.

Thank you for your readership, referrals, and trust,

How to Correct Your I-94

You must check your electronic I-94 admission record every time you re-enter the United States. It is evidence of your legal status and status expiration date. If your record contains incorrect information, contact a CBP Deferred Inspection office as soon as possible. Download this PDF guide.

Makaziwe Mandela Wins the Jacksonville University’s Global Citizen Award

Nelson Mandela told her, “Your ambition has to be better than that of your parents.” Today, Dr. Makaziwe Mandela is building on her father’s work of inclusion and equality. Her remarks when accepting the Jacksonville University’s Global Citizen Award were inspiring and from the heart.

“We've got to celebrate diversity of cultures, of ethnic groups - America is a land of immigrants,” she reminded us. “Focus on the good; tell good stories. The more we do this, the more goodness we will have in our society.” Congratulations, Dr. Mandela!
