We can make history!

Together we can take this history-making step

Dear Supporter,

I want to share with you the thoughts of an Aboriginal woman who participated in the consultations on Constitutional Recognition:

“I want my daughter to grow up proud to be Aboriginal, proud of her heritage, and I want a future where all Australians are proud of this same heritage.”

When I read this statement, it cried out to me and the team here at ANTaR. It caused us to pause and think about why it's important to continue to work towards a reconciled nation.

It is, in a nutshell, our vision. A vision where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ cultures are valued, respected and affirmed across all areas of society, and where they enjoy the right to live free from racial discrimination.

Help us build a movement to achieve this major step on the road to reconciliation.

When the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation delivered its final report in 2001, it said that recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Constitution was a central foundation upon which to build a reconciled nation.
Since that time, ANTaR has continued to work to educate Australians and build popular support for recognition of Australia’s First Peoples in the Constitution.
To succeed, a referendum to change our Constitution needs a majority of Australians in a majority of states to vote yes.

It appears as a huge task, but when we stand together, we can be part of history in the making.

Help us build a movement to achieve this by making a donation today.

Imagine the day of a referendum when Australians stand together to vote to recognise the custodians of our unique Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in our Constitution.

Imagine the day that Australians vote to remove discrimination from our founding document.

On that day we will stand together, proud about taking this history-making step on the path to a just and reconciled Australia.

In solidarity

Andrew and the team at ANTaR

What should change look like?

 - Recognise the prior occupation and continuing     cultures, languages and heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

- Remove the discriminatory provisions in the Constitution (section 25, 51).

 - Insert a protection against discrimination on the basis of race, colour or ethnicity.
