CALLING ALL GSLS....

Due to popular demand a GSL management workshop will take place on 12th March 2016 - venue to be confirmed but likely to be central to the county.
This is a pilot and will be restricted to the first 40 applicants (although priority will be given to ensure at least one from each district). If we are oversubscribed we will run a second one in the autumn.
More details will be released early in the New Year but save the date! If you require more information contact Donna Kerrigan at donna.kerrigan@btinternet.com
We at the National Autistic Society are  coordinating the delivery of the Autism Education Trust training across the South East of England.

The training has many benefits for anyone working in an educational environment.  It is a nationally recognized scheme with certification, funded by the department for education.  It is validated by nationally respected autism-specific organizations and it supports teachers and schools and anyone working directly with children in educational environments to develop a portfolio of evidence in an Ofsted applicable format.

The work that after schools clubs does is crucial for the development of all children and the provision of some structured leisure time with clear aims and goals can be a life saver for many children and young people who may be on the autism spectrum.

Sadly we  recognize that the training does not always get out to after school club professionals such as Scout group leaders and volunteers and we wondered if you could help us disseminate this information to as many people working within the scouts movement so they have the option of accessing this fantastic training opportunity.

There are three levels of training that we offer and the Level one package would most likely be ideal for people who are part of the scouts movement.  Below are details of this training workshop:

Tier 1: Making Sense of autism.
This is a 90 minutes basic awareness training sessions for anyone who works in an educational setting and may need an understanding of autism in their role.   The training includes exclusive film footage, interactive activities and discussion and always get fantastic feedback from delegates.

You may be interested in attending an open access course that we are offering in Hampshire on the 6th of January for the price of £35 including delegate pack.  The attached flyer contains details of the time and location.

What has been recognised nationally is that any changes made to support good autism education has enhanced the education for all students.

I have attached information on the Autism Education Trust in the South East for your interest.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Gone Home
As reported last week it is with sadness that we heard that Maureen Calver had recently passed away. The celebration of the life of Maureen Calver will take place on Thursday 10th December at 2pm at Poole Crematorium, Gravel Hill, Broadstone, BH17 9BQ and afterwards at the Hamworthy Club, Magna Road, Canford Magna, Wimborne BH21 3AP.
Maureen's wish was that men should wear coloured ties and ladies have colour in their outfit and Scout uniforms may be worn if desired.
