11th October at Drayton United Refrom Church, Havant Road, Portsmouth, PO2 7HH. 3pm. This is to remember those members of Scouting in Hampshire who have "Gone Home" in the last year. The service follows the October meeting of Scout Active Support in Hampshire which will begin at 2pm in the Church Hall at the rear of the church in Station Road, where there is parking.
The service is open to all members of Scouting and Guiding and family members and friends of those whose names are being recorded. So far we have 26 names from 13 districts including County and Network. There are refreshments in the hall following the service which usually lasts about 45 minutes. A candle is lit for each name recorded. Names for inclusion can be received up to the day of the service. Please let Richard Spearing, ACC Active Support, know if you have a name for inclusion that has not already been sent. He may be contacted at or a message left on his phone Tel: 02392 382682. We look forward to seeing many of you there on the day.

Hampshire Scouts Expedition to Tanzania in 2017
Hi Everybody,
Hopefully, everybody has now heard about Tanzania 2017, which is open to Scouts and Explorers aged 12 and over (as of July 15).
This will be one of the largest Expeditions run by Hampshire, and the plan is to take 150 Scouts / Explorers and 45 leaders to Tanzania for 4 weeks in the summer of 2017.
The Expedition will be focused on completing community projects (such as building Schools, Medical Centres etc.), along with activities, a safari, and a mini-jamboree to celebrate 100 years of scouting in Tanzania.
We are looking for help as follows
  1. We are looking for about another 20 leaders. Please pass on to any leaders that you feel may be interested. Please visit for information and application forms. The closing date for leaders is Wednesday 30th September 2015.
  1. Applications for Scouts and Explorers (aged 12-18) is currently open. Please forward to any Explorer / Scout group. Please visit for information and application forms. The closing date for Young People is Friday 16th October 2015.
  1. We are looking for help on the selection weekend for the young people (13th – 15th November 15). The help we are looking for includes
    1. Sub Camps – teams of 3-5 adults that could run a sub camp for 30-40 young people. The sub-camps will look after the Young people overnight, and arrange the catering for the sub-camp (the young people to assist with some prep and washing up etc.). All food will be provided. Ideally, we would like the sub camp to provide the catering kit, cooking tent and shelter. Ideal for a Group of leaders, Network group, or SAS group.
    2. Activities – Any groups that can provide an activity that is fun / involves team work. We are looking at groups of up to 10 Young People, for a 30 minute period. We are happy to have groups that have a specific activity that they specialise in, or individuals that we can put together to run activities. We will be looking to have an activities sub camp, for those involved in activities to camp and eat at. Ideal for any Group of leaders, Network / SAS groups
    3. Any other adults for generic running around helping!
    4. First Aid Cover – With a predicted 200+ Young People and Adults on site, it would be great if there was a group of 2-4 that could run a First Aid Tent in case of any issues that occur over the weekend.
Sub camps and Activities will have report sheets, which will be compiled and help to use in making the decisions in the young people selection process.
For all those helping on the selection weekend, there will be no charge, and food, hot drinks / squash will be provide. Please note: The T17 is an alcohol free expedition, which will apply to all attending the selection weekend.
If you can help at the selection weekend, or have any questions, please contact us.
Thanks very much,

Julian Sore

Survival Camp 23rd – 25th October 2015

Dear ADC’s and District Representatives,
Survival Camp will be taking place again this year at Pinsent Scout Camp Site, Winchester. The booking form and other important documents are attached to this communication.
All cubs aged 91/2 or over with a minimum of 5 nights away (3 of which must be under canvas) are eligible to attend. Please remember this is not a camp for inexperienced campers it can get cold and wet and we do not want to put the young people off camping permanently.
We do not charge for leaders attending the camp but we do ask that your leaders run bases and help in other areas. If leaders do not have Nights Away Permits this is not a problem as the camp organisers have all the relevant permits your leaders just need to be DBS cleared and hold a scouting appointment (Occasional helpers may attend but they also must be DBS cleared and in addition to the leader in charge).
We are currently looking for volunteers to run bases and the areas where we have no one to cover at the moment are
First Aid (equipment will be available, but they are welcome to bring their own)
Cooking – Fire based backwoods cooking (Leader running will be responsible for providing ingredients and any suggestions for what to cook)
Mental Agility (All equipment will be provided)
All the bases require supervision for the whole of the programme time so a team of people to enable breaks is desirable. All leaders running bases will be responsible for Risk Assessing that activity prior to and during the camp (I am available to provide assistance with this on email and via my landline).
Finally booking is on a first come first served basis when maximum numbers are reached a waiting list will be drawn up, please book early to avoid disappointment. If a leader in your district is unable to attend please can other leaders in the district support each other if this is not possible please let me know before the event and we will try and accommodate the young people.
Yours In Scouting
