* Hampshire Scout Archery Club who led the organisation of the 10th National Scout Archery Competition at Phasels Wood in Hertfordshire. Over 350 Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Leaders from around the UK took part in Field and Clout competitions as well as more the familiar Target competitions, and had an amazing time. Tim and Charlotte Beeching, who have been the popular organisers of the competition for the last nine years, were awarded County Commissioner's Commendations and thanked for all their many contributions to the sport, both in Hampshire and across UK Scouting.

* Winchester Scout Active Support Unit for leading another awesome Pinewood Derby competition for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts (as well as Dads and Mums). Competitors had to design and build a model car starting with a block of wood and four wheels, and then race them on a downhill track. With creative designs ranging from Thunderbird 4 to an ambulance complete with blue flashing lights, the event brought together hundreds of families with Scouting for a very enjoyable afternoon.

*21st Romsey & Shackleton ESU Rifle Club for organising what we believe to be the first "Run & Shoot" competition in the UK to be run to the new ISSF "Target Sprint" format on 2nd May and for making it such a success and to all the competitors. Results are at http://runandshoot.org.uk/. Interest in this new shooting discipline is growing rapidly and it will feature in the National Scout Rifle Championships at Bisley in October. See http://www.scouts-shoot.org.uk/nsrc/next for details and an entry pack!

HSX Cambodia
Since Hampshire Scout Expeditions (HSX) was founded in 1986 they have run over 20 international Expeditions for Hampshire Scouts to over 10 different countries on six of the continents. In 2016 to celebrate 30 years of exploration we are heading Cambodia and are now seeking participants.

Cambodia is rich in culture, with incredible sights, beautiful beaches and a fascinating history. All elements that we wish to explore as well as meeting warm and welcoming people. The expedition aims to take 20 participants with five leaders on this four week expedition over the winter of 2016/17.

There will be 18 months of training prior to the expedition focusing on teamwork, personal development and leadership to ensure that members gain as much as possible from the experience. The hope that as well as being a life changing experience for those involved, such experiences and contacts will bring greater understanding, and therefore tolerance, of the multi-cultural society in which we live today.

The expedition aims to continue the HSX tradition of being a life changing experience for all involved and inspiring the next generation of expedition leaders.

Hampshire Scouts in Hospitals needs more leaders - can you help?

The group had its third meeting at Southampton General last Wednesday.  The meetings are a great success with children and staff alike and hugely rewarding for the leaders. However increasingly we need to deliver scouting one to one at bedsides. That means we need more volunteers to help us reach more children.

We deliver the scouting fortnightly and our leaders sign up on a rota to those nights they can do. The evenings are planned in advance and we provide you with all the materials and support.

Anyone over 18 can join us but you will have to complete a hospital volunteer induction course. These run three times a year and the next one is on 4th June 2015. If you think you might be interested we would urge you to attend the course as the next one is not until September.

For more information please contact Sara Sullivan on tabby15th@icloud.com

Hundreds remember Nick Brisland

Hundreds of people attended the funeral of Nick Brisland on Saturday, included well over a hundred Explorers, Scout Network members and Leaders who formed a guard of honour. Nick was a 19-year old Scout Network member from Itchen North and Roverang who was killed in a motorcycle accident, and his funeral included a tribute from a fellow Scout Network member and a song from the Roverang cast. Tears of sadness were mixed with memories and laughter during a moving service conducted by the County Scout Chaplain.
