I had a joyful, but sobering experience today. I helped deliver six new beds and sheet sets to one of our foster care families that took in four nieces/nephews being served by the foster care system. This amazing single mom already had three biological children and is now caring for seven kids. What an inspiration!
In order to make it work, she had to move to a bigger place, which meant leaving behind all but one bed. She bought air mattresses, moved her family, and couple months later the county referred her to EVOLVE for foster care licensure.
Upon realizing the family's sleeping situation, EVOLVE applied for six beds from 40 Winks Foundation (Slumberland) and were approved. Today we delivered the beds and brought brand new sheets through our Facebook fundraiser. The joy from the preschool age kids who were home today was truly indescribable. They were chanting, "We got our own beds!" and jumping all around with big smiles.
I soon realized these wonderful kids not only didn't have beds, but they barely had clothing, books, or toys. I often talk about how kids leave foster care with nothing... Today I was reminded firsthand.
At EVOLVE Adoption & Family Services we strive for kids in our foster care homes to thrive, not just survive. These kids are safe. They are very happy. They are well cared for. But there is so much more we could do to provide for their needs.
If you are able to give ($10 or $100 or whatever), please consider donating to foster kids, whether through EVOLVE or another nonprofit. Click HERE to be directed to EVOLVE's Facebook Fundraiser!
These children need you! They need our community to show them we care. They are in the foster care system through no fault of their own. Show them you care. Please.
