Raising Little Heroes:  July 2013
Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center

On June 9th, we got together to learn about the important work  being done at the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Longmont, CO.  Volunteers from the center came to give a thoughtful, informative presentation with plenty of time and patience for questions and stories from our kids.  After the presentation, we picked grass for the bunnies at the center (we picked enough to feed 5 bunnies for one whole day) and built and decorated 4 squirrel nest boxes for the squirrels (thanks to a generous donation from The Home Depot).  Special shout out to Michele Novosad (wood working extraordinaire) and Deanna Petersen (donation outreach) for their work on this project and of course to all of the families who came out.  It was a beautiful morning to spend together.  If you would  like to hear more and/or see more photos from the event, please read the blog post on our website.

Tuesday July 9th, 10am

Join us at Anderson Farms (Erie, CO) to learn about the lifecycle of a seed and explore the farm.  Participants will learn about the life of a plant from seed to maturity.  We will tour the farm, see how seeds get started, and then plant Big Smiles – a sunflower variety that grows one to two feet tall. Each child will be able to take home a potted seed.  Along the way, we will also get to meet some of Anderson Farms’ favorite animal friends including Miles the Buffalo. Expect to get your hands dirty!  Please refer to this event's Evite for more information and to RSVP.

Saturday August 10th, 10am

August 10th will be Conservation Day for Raising Little Heroes at Wonderland Park!  We are in the process of asking various city employees to give presentations to our families about conservation and sustainable gardening.  Stay tuned for more concrete details coming soon.
September 2013
We are researching various organizations that make it possible to "Adopt a US Soldier" for our September project.  Once we settle on an organization, we will start planning a day to get our families together to write letters, draw pictures and possibly assemble small care packages for a currently deployed US soldier.  We hope to see a lot of families join us for this special day of showing support for those who sacrifice so much for those of us here at home.  We will get more information to you as we get things set in stone.
REMINDERS!

We need your feedback as we begin to plan more events, so if you haven't already, please take a few moments to fill out our Family Survey.

Interested in being on our Advisory Board?  Want to be more involved in planning and pulling off our events?  You might want to consider checking out our "Volunteer Positions" page for information about available positions.  We have a great team, but we could use more help coming up with fun and interesting projects for our families.  Join our team now and be part of the excitement!

If you would like to be more involved but are not sure you want to commit to any of our available positions, we can always use committee help for individual projects.  If one of our upcoming projects looks particularly interesting to you, please consider contacting us about helping to run that specific event.
