Raising Little Heroes: September 2015

Baking for Firefighters
We had a WHOLE lot of families come out this year to show some love to our local firefighters. Our heroes met at Scott Carpenter Park to package up the goodies everyone brought and walked over together to the nearest fire station, Station #3 on the corner of 30th and Arapahoe. For the first time in our 3 years of holding this event, the firefighters were off working when we got there! Just as we had split up to spread the appreciation to some other stations around Boulder, the trucks came screaming back. Those lucky families who had not yet left got a tour of the station and closeup look at the trucks.

Explore Chatauqua

Ready for a wildlife adventure? This September, Raising Little Heroes has a unique opportunity to join naturalists from Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks to explore Chautauqua and learn more about the amazing and diverse animals that call Boulder County home. Let’s find out more about our local habitats and how we can all help preserve them for a long, long time to come. For more information, check out the Eventbrite page.

*Please note, we hope to schedule the Community Fruit Rescue project next fall. The fruit trees were hit hard by a frost that left us with little fruit to save this year.

Reading to End Racism

The YWCA in downtown Boulder has been kind enough to offer a unique learning experience previously offered to local schools only.  The Reading to End Racism of Boulder team http://www.ywcaboulder.org/rer/
will be hosting our group at their location on 14th Street!

"Through interactive presentations led by volunteer readers, students have an opportunity to listen to literature, personal stories, and insights regarding racism. Readers facilitate class discussions and assist students in creating proactive solutions for real life situations. Please don't miss this chance to start the discussion with our kids!" Eventbrite page coming soon...

Monday Playgroup

Join us Mondays at Memory Square Park in Louisville (At the corner of Jefferson and Spruce in Old Town) for the Raising Little Heroes Playgroup! Stop by anytime between 9:00-10:00am to learn more about our upcoming events and play with some new friends! Open to all ages. Our board member, Katherine, will have on a red hat to help you find the group.

Also if you have wrapping paper or a collection of gift bags at home, bring them to our next RLH project and we'll donate them to EFAA. Their clients can then reuse the gift wrap for wrapping gifts for their family.

Thanksgiving Votives for Bridge House

Another one of our favorite projects is back- Votives for Bridge House's Thanksgiving meal. We plan to gather at the Meadows Library Space on November 14th to decorate glass jars that will be used as table decorations for Bridge House's annual Thanksgiving meal for the homeless. We will also collect toiletries for Bridge House clients, so the
next time you are traveling, save the toiletries from your hotel and bring them to one of our events.

Stay tuned for details!
