The Teacher and Parent link has an interactive form for scheduling class and group visits. You can still call your local contacts, but if you want to visit a different library or you don't have a local contact, just fill out the form and we will schedule a visit for you and your class or group.
The Fun and Games link has lots of links - Tumblebooks, National Geographic Kids, and PBS Kids among others. There is also a link to With all the emphasis on STEAM programming this site has coding and writing activities for kids. Teachers can sign up for an account and get access to lesson plans. Check it out!
Twenty-five school and public librarians met on Friday, March 15 to learn about the Student Success Initiative and how it is being implemented in Salinas, Monterey, and Santa Cruz. All three libraries are working closely with schools in their jurisdictions to ensure access to public library resources for students through class visits and library cards. Much of the morning was dedicated to discussion of how we can work together to support each other.

Almost time for Summer Reading!
2019 - A Universe of Stories

SCPL staff has many exciting programs planned for all ages. There will be special events with very special performers at all our branches, prizes, and lots of reading. We are definitely emphasizing literacy and accessibility this summer. We will ask all participants to count the number of books they read from June 1 - mid August. Readers will receive books as prizes (no more Book Bucks), be eligible for drawings for prizes donated by Santa Cruz County Merchants who support literacy, and they will be able to keep track of their reading online with our new program called Beanstack. Sign-ups go live on June 1.
