Australia21 owes its existence to the foresight of some of Australia's leading minds. A group of individuals who at the turn of the millennium saw a need to address Australian society’s most challenging questions and to enhance public understanding of the complex problems we face.
In a world which appears to be increasingly willing to make decisions based on short term thinking or a poor appreciation of the fundamental drivers of the problems and opportunities we are faced with, we believe that the need for an organisation like Australia21 is even greater than it was when the organisation was founded some 19 years ago.
Since our inception we have continued to bring together Australians who are leaders in their field to tackle topics like reducing inequality, being smarter about drugs, reducing post-traumatic stress among first responders, assisted dying, valuing and using mindfulness, empathy and compassion and existential threats. You can find some of our latest thoughts, findings and reports on these topics in our current BLOG.
The work we have completed has found its place in front of politicians and business leaders alike and at the mid-point of 2020 we aim to enhance our efforts for the good of Australia.
The natural disasters and pandemic over the last 12 months, and the continuing gaps between the longevity and wellbeing of indigenous Australians and non-indigenous Australians are just three issues, among many, which demonstrate the critical importance of effective public policy. It is not just a fascination of a small circle of people who live inside the so-called “Canberra bubble” – it affects the daily lives and the futures of all of us.
Of course it is not possible without you, our supporters, who have wanted to have your voice present at the table when our political and industry leaders are making the critical decisions that will have a profound influence on our lives for years to come.
As the end of the financial year approaches we hope you will be interested in making a contribution to this cause.
