Can We Count on You?

Dear Friends:

“Bill” was living in his pickup truck in a Walmart parking lot. It was winter and he had no blankets. This veteran, who once had a home, family, and career, had lost everything and now struggled to survive on one cold meal a day, eaten right out of a can. Multiple sclerosis left his body in a wheelchair and his bipolar symptoms were untreated.

Someone told Bill about Mitzvah Circle Foundation.  Bill writes...

"With the answered prayer and hearts and effort of lots of people, at a time when I had no one else but Mitzvah Circle alongside me, I have been truly blessed.

I signed a one-year, renewable lease for an apartment. It’s in a secure building, meaning it is well-lit and thirty feet from my door there is an absolutely flat and short, well-lit path leading to a reserved handicap spot at the entrance.

It has a roll-in shower and lots of bars in the bathroom and wood floors so my wheels roll easily across it.
It has a settable thermostat so I will neither freeze nor roast. And, I have my flatware, pots and pans, coffee maker and grinder from Mitzvah Circle so I can more than survive now.

None of this would have happened without you stepping in at a critical juncture in my life and being compassionate people who just wanted to help someone in need. I remain embarrassed that I was such a person who needed help. Now my goal is to rebuild my life.

Since I have been in my apartment, most of my worst symptoms have gone away and I can walk a little more each day with crutches, just a little, but it is progress. There are no more words I can give, but a simple-sounding but incredibly heartfelt 'thank you.' "

Every day, we help people in Bill’s situation as well as sick babies having organ transplants who have no diapers, students who do not have pencils or other supplies they need to do their homework, and families who wear flip-flops all year long because they don’t have shoes, clothing, or coats for cold weather.

I cannot imagine turning any one of them away. Your gift today helps ensure that we won’t have to.

On behalf of the 40,000 people Mitzvah Circle served last year, we are so grateful!

Please give online or mail a check to us at 1561 Gehman Road, Harleysville, PA 19446.  Your gift of any amount is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Fran Held, Executive Director/Founder
