WE'RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A CHAIN REACTION
You don't need us pointing out the increasing number of chains opening and 'opening soon' in Colchester. The journalist and food critic Joanna Blythman recently wrote an opinion piece for The BBC Good Food Website (click here) and it is hard for us to disagree. Choice is great which is why you'll spot some of our team out and about in Colchester with choice of samples of our delicious food and drinks for Colchester to savour. SPRING MENU IN TIME FOR MAY BANK HOLIDAY
A menu packed with spring produce including the return of Ewan's hugely popular Crab with Asparagus Mousse from last May but improved. CLICK HERE for the full menu and don't forget our regularly changing BAR MENU available in the downstairs bar at lunch and dinner. Lunch from 12, dinner from 5.30pm. 
NEW WINES, NEW DISCOVERIES
After an extensive tasting of many wines from many corners of the globe, we've updated the list with some wonderful discoveries including:
  • Tabula Rasa from Thistledown Wines in Australia - a Grenache perfect for sharing throughout the summer made from succulent whole bunch fruit and served in a 500ml crown cap bottle with tumblers!
  • Lexhuberence Rosé from Clos Cantenac in Bordeaux, a Merlot based rosé with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon & Cabernet Franc. Seductive? You bet! 
  • A Portuguese red from Palmero DOC in Setubal, Serra Mãe has all the cherry lushness, crunchy brambly fruit with herbs and texture to be an ideal wine for our Pigeon dish hitting the menu this Friday. 
  • Finally, a Kiwi gem from Te Whare Ra in Marlborough, New Zealand - TORU - a blend of three aromatic grapes: Gewurtztraminer|Riesling|Pinot Gris - gorgeous, multidimensional glass of prettiness.

We were thrilled to be awarded 2 Rosettes for Culinary Excellence from The AA Guide in March to add to our Michelin and Good Food Guide recognition. Our team have worked immensely hard to create exciting food served with consistency. This award recognises thier work and spurs us on for greater excellence.

Both The Observer Food Monthly and Hardens Guide are open for nominations for their annual awards and they're giving away some great prizes for those that nominate - that means YOU! We're only as good as our last service, but we hope you might find reason to nominate us is whichever category you felt appropriate, be it BEST RESTAURANT, BEST SUNDAY LUNCH or BEST PLACE TO DRINK.
