So many neighbors, residents, and small businesses
have helped create this colorful, peaceful community space.

Let's Celebrate!

Dedication: 5pm hosted by Rev Dash & First African Students with Original Poem by Marcus Amaker & Storytelling by Julian Gooding from John L. Dart Library

First African, 1020 King (across from Food Lion - please park there)
Free: All Are Welcome.
BUTTERFLY BOOK NOOK: BEFORE
BEFORE: October 1, 2017 - This photo shows the space about 6 months after our first Community Garden Potluck to discuss how we want to to transform an underutilized community space into something amazing.

AND AFTER?....COME AND SEE FOR YOURSELF!
WHAT TO EXPECT ON SATURDAY
DRUM & DANCE: Drawing from the richness of the African cultural heritage to reflect their influence in today's cultural performances, WOSE is a Charleston-based African music, dance and song group. Check out a video HERE
HOT OFF THE PRESS! Our new Children's Activity Book will be available for free for kids to experience the garden. The book was the brainchild (like the garden) of the amazing Kim Williams Odom in honor of Cynthia Graham Hurd and features design & artwork by Mia Loia of REDUX, Rachel Parris (formerly of EP!) and the support of Rev. Dash and the First African Child Development Center.
NOURISHING SOUP: The Stone Soup Collective will have samples of their Sweet Potato & Peanut Stew based on a classic West African recipe using local sweet potato, ginger, peanut, tomato, and collard greens.

And don't miss SOUP & STORYTELLING, starting every Tuesday night at the Butterfly Book Nook through the fall.
BUBBLE MAGIC: Good Clean Fun will be wowing once again with their incredible bubble magic. Bubbles of all shapes and sizes -- kiddos love it!
LEAVE YOUR CREATIVE MARK! Create a colorful stone to line the paths of Butterfly Book Nook with our friends from Artist & Craftsman Uptown.
ADOPT-A-PLANT CERAMIC PLAQUE: We have 20 handmade plant markers to be adopted for creatively labeling plants at Butterfly Book Nook! Please come ready to adopt-a-plant sign with a donation ($50+) and Margaret Weinberg, a ceramist at Cone 10, will create each marker! Meet her this Saturday and select the plant you'd like to support (photo shows unglazed ceramic tile).
NEIGHBOR SUPPORT: Yummmmmm....Pork sliders and banana pudding from the restaurant of James Beard Award Winning Pit Master Rodney Scott
