THE THEME FOR THIS WEEK'S #MARKETHOUR IS STARTUPS

Do you support entrepreneurs that want to test trade their products?  Then a market could be just the place for them to do it and as part of the Love Your Local Market campaign this May, operator's up and down the country are offering incentivised pitches, offering a low cost, low risk route to ..... well market!  We even cover their insurance thanks to our supporters GM Imber and Sons.

This week's @MarketHour theme on Twitter, held each Wednesday between 2-3 in the afternoon, is Startups which we are excited to announce, will be guest hosted by London company Startisans. Founded in October 2014, the scheme is run by Alex and Kitty Shepherd, recent winners of three Great British Entrepreneur Awards and recently featured in the Sunday Times Maserati 100 list of entrepreneurs. Startisans offers unrivalled and invaluable resources to start up businesses through its unique ‘Stall to Store’ scheme and we are keen for UK operators offering training and advice to join them for #MarketHour to share best practice and really shout about how the industry is supporting those new in business.

Should operational or strategic questions come up during #MarketHour, we shall be passing along anything of interest to John Walker who runs the NABMA Forum, which will allow for a more in-depth discussion.  The Forum is a valuable resource for the industry and may already contain many of the answers you are looking for in the smooth running of your market operation.

WIth just ten weeks to go until the start of this years Love Your Local Market, could you Guest Host future #MarketHour's?  We are looking for suggestions on themes and would like to hear from anyone with an idea, or who would like to get involved.   To start us off, we have come up with some suggestions:

Week 1 - Startups
Week 2 - Increasing spend
Week 3 - Youth Markets
Week 4 - Increasing footfall
Week 5 - Using social media to promote your market
Week 6 - Traders in the Spotlight
Week 7 - Take the PLEDGE
Week 8 - LYLM startups
Week 9 - Market events
Week 10 - Plans for LYLM

We look forward to hearing from you.

NEWS THIS WEEK:  CIRENCESTER YOUTH MARKET

WEDNESDAY MARCH 9th 10 - 3

As we are all aware, it is not always easy to host a Youth Market during May due to the pressures of exams and the half term holiday and that is why Cirencester are first past the post for this years Love Your Local Market Youth Markets.

The Town Council in partnership with The Royal Agricultural University (RAU), are working with Cirencester College and Kingshill School to organise a youth market on Wednesday 9 March 10am – 3pm in the centre of Cirencester.

Made up of 20 stalls, the market will give local students the opportunity to sell products they’ve made or designed. From homeware and accessories to tasty homemade food and beverages.  Stalls will include one from Cirencester College Young Leaders a group who are developing social action projects to help those in the local community.  They are currently helping the homeless community.

Judges will be on the lookout for the best dressed stand, which will receive a special award and the winner will be put forward to take part in the National Youth Market, organised by the NMTF in Manchester this September.

If you are thinking of running a Youth Market during Love Your Local Market fortnight, find out more about the Youth Market Competition and how you can put young entrepreneurs forward for the National Youth Market by visiting our website.
