October 2014

Since it was launched back in 2009, I’ve written here several times about our $10 million campaign The Vision and the Promise and the vital importance it has had on the strategic development of our institution and the critical work that we do in the New York City community. I’ve really looked forward to the day when I could report our successful completion of The Vision and the Promise and I’m pleased to be doing that here now: we did it—and we exceeded our goal in the process!

There are a considerable number of people to thank and recognize for the successful completion of the College’s first official fundraising campaign and I am grateful to each and every one of them—including many of you receiving this issue of FY Eye. Over 1,300 people contributed to The Vision and the Promise and this fact alone helps to illustrate exactly how broadly our work has resonated throughout our community.

While the successful completion of this campaign is certainly cause for celebration, it is also absolutely critical for us to recognize at this moment that the great work that we’ve been able to embark on thanks to The Vision and the Promise’s  success is only just beginning. As you know, we’ve taken an aggressive approach toward strategic planning, working hard to ensure that we provide our students and residents with the best and most innovative education that they can find anywhere and ensuring that the tens of thousands of patients that we serve each year receive the highest level of care possible. Our goal is to continue to forge ahead as a leader and trailblazer in health care and to do this we can’t lose our focus. We must continue to move forward.

We should rightfully celebrate the completion of this important campaign, along with all of the support that it has provided and the initiatives that it has helped us to establish. But we should also recognize that this is just one step, albeit an important and critical one, in our continuous effort to increase the impact that we have as an institution.

You should be proud of what you’ve helped us accomplish with The Vision and the Promise. Exceeding our fundraising goal during less-than-ideal economic conditions is truly inspiring. Now it’s time to harness that momentum, redouble our efforts and build on our success.

Congratulations to us all.

Sincerely,
