The Optometric Center of New York recently held its eleventh annual ‘Eyes on New York’ gala. The gala is a marquee event for our institution and the hard work by Ann Warwick and her team, as well as the trustees of the OCNY Foundation and other members of the College community, always makes it a great night and provides us with an opportunity to shine on a big stage.
At this year’s gala I had the pleasure of announcing that we have currently raised over $9.5 million toward the $10 million goal that we set out to achieve when our five-year Vision and the Promise
campaign kicked off back in 2009. This is a great milestone for us. Clearly there is no longer any question about whether or not we will meet our ambitious goal. The only question now is by how much we will exceed it when the campaign comes to a conclusion this fall.
While we’re clearly in the homestretch, this is not the time for us to coast to the finish line. In fact, in many respects, raising that final five percent of our goal over the next several months might just be the most challenging aspect of the entire campaign. I am gratified by the very broad support that we have received for the Vision and the Promise
from across our community. I’m also proud of what we have been able to achieve thanks to the campaign thus far. It has helped us build new relationships and strengthen existing ones. And, among other things, it has given us the opportunity to provide more scholarship support to our students than ever before, care for more members our community who might not otherwise receive it and fund vital research to help move our understanding of vision science forward.
Offering the highest-quality education, supporting cutting-edge research and providing exceptional care to as many people as possible are key elements in our institutional mission and not something that we take lightly. The Vision and the Promise
was launched specifically to help us carry out this ambitious mission and to provide us with the ability to continue to build on the valuable work that we do. The support that we have received for our campaign to this point provides wonderful validation for the importance of our mission and we must push to meet and, ideally, exceed our goal, not only so that we can secure our future but also so that we can continue to build on our legacy of success.
Thank you for your support.
