Our Vision for Children

Dear Friends,

The College community and the Optometric Center of New York, our affiliated foundation, are excited to announce Our Vision for Children, a campaign to create a more comfortable, efficient, and effective experience for our youngest patients and their families.

We envision the 10th floor as a welcoming environment completely dedicated to pediatric eye and vision needs. Most of our young patients will no longer have to visit multiple floors of the building; our pediatric activities will be in one location. The efficiency gained from this renovation and modernization will not only enhance the University Eye Center (UEC) patient experience and promote care coordination, but also create an educational setting that is properly aligned with the future practice of eye care and complement the College's expanding clinical research program.

This fundamental redesign will increase our capacity to provide greater numbers of children with quality eye and vision care. With its own waiting room separate from our adult patients, calming spaces for overstimulated children, and additional resources for parents, the 10th floor will be a safe zone for the different populations of children we serve.

A $2.5M investment will ensure that the UEC will have a pediatric service unlike any other in the nation. We are well on our way thanks to a $1.5M grant from the NYSUNY 2020 initiative. The $1M we raise through Our Vision for Children will support construction of the 3,000 sq. ft. space and the purchase of state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment technology.

The generosity of private donors will help us reach our $1M target. If you've secured a ticket for the Eyes on New York Gala, you will hear more about the campaign for our pediatric patients tonight. We look forward to sharing more about our goals and our progress in the coming months.
