DEFENDING TRANS YOUTH

Nearly 30 Trans Youth Receive Support from Trans Defense Fund

Upon hearing that the new administration planned to rescind executive orders as well as increased threat of pending anti-trans legislation, BreakOUT! joined several other advocacy groups across the country in a rapid response plan to defend our members and community.

The Hite Law Group was instrumental in this process, offering free legal assistance to all BreakOUT! members from January through April and hosting a Defend Trans Youth legal clinic with attorneys from Hite Law Group, the Justice and Accountability Center, criminal defense attorney Tom Harang Law, and immigration attorney Corinne Beth.

In just under 30 days, we were able to raise over $10,000 thanks to individual donors like YOU and support from the Third Wave Fund.  We continued our fundraising efforts into March and have exceeded our fundraising goal!

This made it possible for nearly 30 transgender youth of color to file for updated identification documents.  Keeping our folks as safe as possible is a priority for BreakOUT! as we navigate a repressive political terrain.

You can still give to the project.  Any funds not used for name/gender marker changes or immigration attorney's fees will go toward other emergencies for members in crisis.
