Calling older women of colour, newcomers and women with disabilities to participate in a series of FREE interactive workshops that provide:

  • Access to information
  • Enhancement of support networks
  • Break away from social isolation
  • Exploration of strategies to help plan for physical safety
  • Creating financial security
  • Improvement of overall health and well-being

The project, sponsored by BC Centre for Elder Advocacy and Support, aims to:

  • Engage and empower older women of colour, newcomers, and those with disabilities by increasing their awareness about violence and abuse;
  • Assist them in developing safety plans and resistance strategies and tools;
  • Enhance their knowledge and connections to community resources, including information about government benefits; and
  • Help them achieve financial security and independence through the use of financial tools and strategies

Great News!!!

Open Gym Challenge Night, Monday April 4, will have guests from Canadian Paralympics Women Volleyball Team, and demo of seated volleyball; also representatives from Speedminton.

Join us for a fun and active night at the Cook Elementary School Gym, lots of activities including a hilarious Challenge Relay between members, volunteers and staff. Refreshment will be provided. This event is open to everyone, bring your family and friends.

Information Session: Wednesday, March 16, 2016, 6 to 7 p.m. at the RCD

Come & learn the registration criteria, curriculum, reverse scholarship or any questions you may have regarding this training course!

The RCD, in partnership with Embrace Counselling Services Centre, is offering a brand new specialized training course for people who are interested in the career path of caregiving. The purpose of the training course is to provide the “Best of Care” to groups like seniors and people with disabilities, in tandem with their support network, to attain different goals in their lives.

Date: April 23 to September 3, 2016

Total Training Time: 183 hours incl. 60 hours practicum

Fee: $4,500

Note: a reverse scholarship of $1,000 per student is available for participants who have completed 100% of the course and passed the examinations.

RCD AMBASSADOR PROJECT

LEVEL 1 TRAINING: April 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2018
 
The Ambassador Project is comprised of three levels, where a collection of training, skills and knowledge transfer will be effected through classroom session, outreach initiative, meeting with inspirational speakers and community champions, mentoring, and community engagement.
 
There is no cost to participate, however there may be different levels of commitments required.
Level 1: Commitment to attend all sessions
Level 2: Commitment to become RCD’s Ambassador in the community
Level 3: Commitment to provide mentoring for Level 1 and Level 2 participants
