RCD Member Communications

June 2016

June is ACCESS AWARENESS MONTH

The RCD is hosting two FREE Community Workshops for our members and the general public to better understand different disability topics. The workshops are beneficial to develop different perspectives on disability, how to interact with people with disabilities and understand their needs; great for workplace communication, front line staff with customer service roles, as well as people with caregiver roles, or people who have friends and colleagues with disabilities.

June 21: Empathy Over Sympathy Please
June 23: Disability Awareness & Sensitivity Training

Venue: Richmond City Hall, Room 2.004, from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Invite your family and friends to these 2 practical workshops!

Based on a physician’s recommendation, a person with a permanent or temporary mobility limitation may be issued an Accessible Parking Permit. The individual has been assessed and confirmed that he or she is limited by one of more of the following conditions:
  • Cannot walk any distance without assistance of another person or a mobility aid
  • Cannot walk 100 meters without risk to health, or
  • Has a disability that affects mobility, and the ability to walk specifically
The permit is for the sole use of the holder only and everyone needs to follow the rules, including permit holders, family members, people who have a disability but not a permit holder, and the general public.

To report violation of proper usage of Accessible Parking Permit, please take note of the permit number and call RCD at 604-232-2404 or report to SPARC BC Accessibility and Enforcement Line at 604-718-7744, or 1-888-718-7794 (outside Metro Vancouver) or email permits@sparc.bc.ca.
