Public libraries are a vital part of any community and one of the most cost-effective investments. The Friends of the Pacific Grove Public Library help ensure that our library is a thriving community center for discovery and lifelong learning. Monterey County Gives 2021 raised an amazing $9 million plus for 170 local non-profits!

Julie Weirick is the Technical Services Librarian at the Pacific Grove Public Library. Technical Services is responsible for ordering, receiving, cataloging, preserving, and processing all materials available at the library. Julie also manages the ZipBooks grant program.

Working as a student assistant at her university's library as an undergrad, Julie loved knowing how to find information and being able to share this with other students.  After earning her bachelor's degree, Julie decided to pursue library work as a career.  She worked in Technical Services at a law school library in Sacramento for six years, before her husband's job change brought them to Pacific Grove in 2014. Julie started volunteering for PGPL shortly after and was hired as an on-call Library Clerk when a position became available. Within a few years, Julie was promoted to Library Technician in Technical Services and decided to further her library education at San Jose State University. Julie was promoted to Senior Library Assistant for Technical Services and became a Librarian once she'd earned her Master's in Library and Information Science.

“I’ve always loved working in libraries, and what makes PGPL so special is the friendly community, the dedicated Friends of the Library, the enthusiastic staff, and of course the beautiful historic building.”

When not at the library, Julie enjoys watching movies and visiting family in Michigan (where she grew up), spending time with her husband and their dog, and she recently took up crochet.
