President's Newsletter

March 2015

Dear Balint colleagues around the world:

We are experiencing the first days of Spring here in Colorado, with warm temperatures in Denver and clear blue skies showcasing white, snowy peaks in the distance. It's my favorite time of year, full of the promise of new growth in our garden and still a few warm days of skiing in the mountains!

There is a lot to cover in this newsletter, including ballots to elect Board members and Auditors and the opening of the Metz Congress website!

First though I would like to share a very exciting development. Beginning in January, myself and Albert Lichtenstein (current President of the American Balint Society) have been leading a new Balint Group with members of WONCA's Young Doctors Movement around the globe. I will share more of this at our Council meeting in Malmo next month. Several quick reflections though: First, one CAN hold a very good Balint group over the internet! Second, these young doctors give me great hope for the future of the Balint movement. They are fantastic! I feel this work opens a new door for how we move forward. Many thanks to Luîs Pinho-Costa from Portugal and Kyle Hoedebecke from the USA for bringing us together. Much more to come!

19th International Balint Congress in Metz

The website is open: You may now visit the Congress website at ibfevents.org! There you will find a great deal of detailed information about the upcoming Congress, including the preliminary agenda, transportation info, hotel information, AND you can register!

Congratulations to Jean-Daniel and his team for doing such fine work. I know that we will have a wonderful and inspiring time together. It's only 6 months away!!

Leadership Task Force report

The Leadership Task Force has produced a very comprehensive report of their work. You may download a summary of the report by clicking here. The full report is available on the IBF website.

Postscript

Good bye until Malmo/Lund! I hope to see many of you soon in Sweden at our April Council Meeting. Thanks to Stefan Balint and his team for all of the preparations!

Best wishes,
Don Nease, IBF President

Elections!

Time to cast your ballots: It's time for our voting Council members to cast ballots for our contested Board positions. Each national Society gets 4 votes, so please coordinate with your national Society leadership to ensure that we only receive four votes per Society. Ballots must be sent to Juanita Forssell, accountancy auditor, by April 10!

You may download a voting ballot by clicking here.

There were three nominations for our two Vice Presidents:
Jorge Brandao - Portugal
Michéle Paree - Belgium
Kristiina Toivola (incumbent) - Finland

There were also three nominations for our two Auditor positions:
Christian Linclau - Belgium
Pia Soderberg - Sweden
Janet Walker - USA

You may download the candidate's personal statements by clicking on their names above. We did not receive a personal statement from Christian.

Bids needed!

Host an IBF meeting! We are in need of bids for both of our meetings for next year...

The Council meeting in the first half of 2016 does not have a location as yet.  Poland has bid for the Leadership Conference in the second half of 2016.  Bids for both events are open until March 31!
