Avant Garde: A Different Stitch  There is a term for art that is ahead of it’s time, Avant Garde. The gallery is proud to host an exhibit that showcases a few of these artists who experiment with fiber in order to create new presepectives. Pushing boundaries and pioneering the future of fiber art is just the beginning. Join us in opening our minds and celebrating the artists who work with a different thread. Featuring works by Kathleen Dove, Judith Gunter, Lauren Lay and Pam Phillips.

Special Meet-the-Artist open house on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2-4pm with Lauren Lay.

Classes at FACES

 

FACES First Sunday Meet & Sew; Sunday , October  2, 1 pm-4 pm; $5 /members, $10/non-members; for 16 and up. Do you have a sewing or quilting project that’s just not getting done at home? Want to reduce the items in your mending basket, finish that quilt, sew the final bit of that dress? Meet like-minded individuals, help each other, and have fun finishing your projects!
Learn to Zentangle; Saturday, October 8, 9am-11am. Instructor – Charlotte Jordan; $30/members, $35 non-members; Beginner, intergenerational – open to all ages, ages 15 & under must be accompanied by a paying adult. Learn a new art form that is easy, relaxing, and fun!  This art form is another way of patterned drawing.  Anyone can do it!
Steampunk Costume Class; Sunday, October 9, 1pm-4pm. Instructor – Diana Limberis; $15/members, $10 non-members; get ready for the Literary Evening with Jules Verne event! Learn how to dress in steampunk style.  Get ideas and tips on how to look the part.
More Zentangle; Saturday, October 22, 9am-11am. Instructor – Charlotte Jordan; $20/members, $25 non-members; Advanced, intergenerational – open to all ages, ages 15 & under must be accompanied by a paying adult. Follow up class, must first have attended "Learn to Zentangle" beginner class. Attendees will each receive five new tiles and a Graphic 1 pen. Bring your tools that you received from your beginner class.

Outreach Coordinator
A contracted temporary position working 20-24 hours per week starting October 17 until June 30, 2017. Responsible for achieving the goals of the Fiber Arts Center of the Eastern Shore (FACES) regional online directory/marketplace project. Tasks include:
1) establishing relationships with Eastern Shore fiber artists, groups, and businesses; and state and county arts, tourism, and economic development agencies;
2) conducting outreach visits to interview, photograph, and document clients and their work;
3) assembling and providing resource information and training;
4) updating database and website content;
5) setting up an online marketplace shop on Etsy;
6) directing project volunteers; and
7) assisting with marketing planning and implementation. Applicant must be deadline oriented and work efficiently with a high standard of quality.

The successful candidate must be a flexible team player, attentive to details, professional, and able to multi-task. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and computer skills, and the ability to work independently, providing weekly reports. It is important for candidates to be innovative, manage their time well, be organized, and eager to learn.

Must be proficient in Excel and Word. Fiber arts knowledge and sales experience preferred. This position will travel throughout the Delmarva peninsula. Must have reliable car. Mileage will be reimbursed at the standard rate. If considered, references and background check will be required.

FACES is seeking volunteers to help with the following:

  • FACES Donated Inventory - help us organize and utilize our donated fiber arts supplies and materials.
  • FACES Class Administration - help us schedule and administer our classes.
  • FACES Marketing & Outreach- help us update and promote our website, online events calendar, and regional directory.
