Welcome to my Autumn newletter

New video

The video above is from from a recent performance with Alice Zawadzki at RNCM as part of Manchester Jazz Festival. Alice's regular band was joined by a string quartet for this concert and this is a piece I arranged especially. It's a traditional Sephardic song called Indome para Marsilia.

I Chew Thorns With The Roses

Friday 4 September

Tomorrow sees the premiere of a new performance created by Alice Zawadzki based on the memoirs of her Polish grandmother Irena Protassewicz. The show is narrated by Alice's father (Irena's son), the historian Hubert Zawadzki, and features choreography by Katarzyna Witek and music from Alice and myself.

Following this, Alice and I will be joined by the rest of her band to perform songs from her album China Lane.

The event is taking place in the beautiful Quarry Theatre - a recently converted Grade II listed church - in Bedford (half an hour from Kings Cross) and launches a new series of performances curated by Jacqui Dankworth.

There will also be an exhibition of Alice’s paintings and work by Polish photographer Monika Jakubowska in the theatre foyer.
