*NEW OFFERING* Free Open Practice Class

As you saw in the schedule above, the only students who have their regularly scheduled private lesson the week of Thanksgiving are Monday students.

I've decided to offer a FREE open practice class on Tuesday, November 26 to ANY STUDENT (even Monday students).

What is this?

It's simply an opportunity to come and have one hour of monitored practice time. Each class will have up to four students and I will simply rotate around to each student every 5 minutes or so and help them with what they're working on.

There will be four times available:

This is basically a freebie lesson! There are only 16 spots available so they will be first-come, first-serve.

*Disclaimer* If I do not have at least two students signed up for a session, that session time will be canceled so please text me and let me know ASAP if you would like to have your student participate.

Christmas Performances

Every year I offer two Christmas performance opportunities. This first is during Parlor City Christmas on Saturday, December 7 at 11:00 am. This performance is open to all students.

If your student would like to participate, please drop me a text.

The second is at Von Maur Department Store on Saturday, December 14, and is by invitation only. Students who were invited to play at this event received an email in October.

Happy Birthday Variations

During our August group classes, I had one big goal: for ALL students to be able to play happy birthday without music.

It's every pianist's nightmare to be asked to play something but feel crippled when you don't have music in front of you. It is NOT a good feeling. Of any tune out there, it's really important to me that my students be able to play this tune without music.

Not only were students challenged to play it without music, but everyone was asked to come up with their own variation.

I managed to capture a few students playing theirs during class. (I'm sorry I didn't capture them all - it's called forgetful teacher syndrome). Here's a fun little video highlighting just a few. Enjoy!
Give your students a little challenge this week and see if they can still play it. Encourage them to freshen up on it once in a while so it stays in their memory.

Practice Tip

According to new research, National Institutes of Health team members found that by taking a short ten-second break our brains may solidify the memories of new skills we just practiced a few seconds earlier. The results highlight the critically important role rest may play in learning.

What does this mean for your student?

Don't worry if you don't hear your students playing every second during their practice time. It's good for them to stop for a moment and simply sit and think about their music, take a few deep breaths with their hands in their lap, or walk away and get a drink of water.

Breaks help our brains process
