On Saturday April 22nd our first re-union of Briars Grand Final teams was held.
The 1985 Kentwell Cup team coached by Bruce Robinson and Rex Harris.  Both coaches attended together with 4 other members of their team.  Owen Moore, Greg Mitchell, Peter Dunlop, Terry O’Kane.  Fortunately for this photograph the numbers were swollen by members of the 2017 coaching group Dave Munnoch, Scott McGill, Tim Entwistle, plus the Beast, Phil England, David Blair, Gary Avery and President Brett Howle.

The Briars Rugby Committee did a great job by providing a most welcome marquee and chairs plus a large esky with ice and beers and an honour payment system.

We thank Lachlan White for introducing players and coaches to our group and our three teams put on a great performance winning by a total of 188 – 7 against Rouse Hill.

Our next re-union is set for Saturday May 13th with the 1964 Burke Cup organized by Ian Blair as the featured team.
As appears to be unknown to many Briars Rugby Old Boys, by 2016 Briars Rugby culture and conduct had declined to a level whereby Suburban Rugby Union (SRU) issued us with a severe reprimand and placed us on a $3,000 good behaviour bond.
Note following letter from SRU President Tim Richards of 2nd November 2016.
Thanks for your attendance at the recent meeting with Suburban Rugby to discuss Briars RFC’s breach of its 2016 tolerable level of established offences.
The Board has decided that Briars RFC will be graded in Div Four for 2017 with the following conditions:
  • Briars RFC to be placed on a $3000 bond for the 2017 season.
  • The bond will be forfeited if the club REACHES its tolerable level of three established offences.
  • Briars RFC must submit its internal discipline policy for approval prior to the 2017 season.
  • Briars RFC must appoint an accredited coach to each of its three teams. Team managers are to be appointed also.
I have attached the invoice for the bond. Payment is due prior to Rd 1 2017.

Please forward your discipline policy once complete. (I believe Chris Moloney has provided you with a copy of Blue Mtns RFC’s policy, which you may use as a template.)
Please forward the names of your coaches and managers once appointed. (Note, coaches can gain accreditation between their appointment and the start of the 2017 season, if required.)

The aforementioned letter and the recognition that Briars Rugby was in serious trouble were key factors in the re-organisation now underway with Briars Rugby.
Note the following letter from Club President Brett Howle to Tim Richards of April 2017

In Brett Howle’s aforementioned letter note his item 9 “Code of Conduct and Policies”.

We are making progress and a key asset is our experienced and cohesive coaching group.  Old Boys will meet them at Rothwell and at the June 16th Rugby Lunch at our Club Rooms.
We can use more help and support.
