Spiritual Training- Thoughts with Pastor Matt Hoyt

As any new year begins it is common to create resolutions for ourselves. This year we may struggle to set goals and make plans with so much uncertainty and social limitations in place. However, God is always at work, seeking to partner with us and transform us. Pastor Matt encourages us to invest daily in our spiritual training! At Orchard, we offer several opportunities outside of our Sunday morning Worship service for you to grow and mature in your Spiritual Training. Visit our website for more information on our small groups.https://orchardventura.org/2020/04/13/zoom-groups/

Counterculture

The Book of Daniel

We live in a culture that is often foreign and hostile to our faith. The book of Daniel is a collection of stories and prophecies written about Jewish believers living in the hostile foreign land of Babylon during the Exile. Therefore, the book of Daniel can teach us a lot about standing firm and living faithfully counter to the culture in which we find ourselves.

This Week's Messages!

Pressure to Conform

Daniel 1:1-7

We live in a world that is constantly seeking to shape us and the church in its image, but our call is to be counterculture by seeking to be conformed to the image of Christ.

FFFF - Food Faces Facts and Fun January 24 at 4 pm via Zoom

You are invited to join us on Zoom for FFFF (Food, Faces Facts & Fun), our Annual Congregational Meeting on January 24th at 4 pm. I know the term “Congregational Meeting” doesn’t sound exciting, but FFFF is really more like a family reunion. We usually share a potluck meal, which we won’t be able do this year, but there will still be the usual and great “Faces” slideshow of 2020, some sort of “Fun” entertainment or game, and also just a little bit of business and “Facts”.

Donation items can also be brought to the Church Office M-F 10 am to Noon, or on Sunday mornings look for the blue bins!

  • We need 50 more blankets, small enough to carry around easily (no comforters or quilts)

  • We need 50 scarfs

  • We need 70 beanies

  • We need 10 jackets (but really more because sizes are all over the place)

  • We need 74 rain ponchos

  • We need 40 tarps

  • We can always use more handwarmers but we have 100 for now.

As you may know, Ventura is embarking on a new long-term vision for the City through the creation of an updated General Plan. This exciting initiative, “Ventura General Plan: Our Vision, Our Future,” will result in a comprehensive update to the City’s General Plan along with an updated Local Coastal Plan and a new Climate Action Plan. We’d like to invite you to help us build the future of Ventura by sharing your input and ideas for the General Plan in this brief online survey. Please visit the links below:

Thrive Campaign

We want to thank you for your continued generosity to the Thrive Campaign. Phase One is wrapping up in a the next couple of weeks and have plans to move right into the next Phase!

  • A new front entrance to the Worship Center with four columns wrapped in stone veneer supporting a gabled roof. New front doors, stamped concrete, and lighting are also included.

  • A new Welcome Center to the left of the front entrance which includes a U-shaped concrete countertop, under-counter lockable cabinets, electrical outlets and a wall-mounted display case. The Welcome Center will be covered by a roof structure with overhead lighting.

  • Resurfacing the two, large square benches on the front patio using poured-in-place concrete.

  • Wrapping the bottom 3’ of the 16 columns on the front patio in stone veneer and capstone.

  • Removing and replacing up to 800 sf of uneven concrete on the front patio.

  • Making aesthetic improvements to the front staircase including adding stone veneer on the side walls.

  • On the east side of the patio, adding an underground natural gas line to facilitate the installation of a fireplace at a future time.

  • The major surprise has been the discovery that the east pergola and one other pergola beam were damaged and rotted beyond repair and needed to be completely replaced at a cost of $25,000.

  • Other important work is also being completed that includes parking lot patching, sealing and striping as well as painting the exterior of all buildings, except for the Tutoring Center. The interior of the Worship Building will also be painted using colors recommended by the architect and Design Consultant.

  • Future work will include landscaping next to the handicapped ramp from the parking lot and new signage.

Parking Lot Closed

Our main parking lot and lower parking lot will be closed starting next Wednesday (January 13) through Saturday (January 15) for sealing! The fresh new parking lot will be open for Church on Sunday (January 16)
