A Blue Christmas - Thoughts with Pastor Matt

This time of year can be hard. many experience pain, loss, and grief. But the good news is... The hope of Jesus will carry us through!

Pastor Matt acknowledges that this time of the year is not joyful for everyone. In 1 Thessalonians we are called not to morn like the rest of the world who do not have Hope. We as Christians have Hope. Hope has a name - Jesus - and He will carry us through the pain and grief that we are experiencing.

Christmas Shoppe Recap

We appreciated your continued support for this annual event that makes an impact on so many in our local community. Not only did the participants take home gifts, they experienced the Love of Christ which is the best gift anyone could receive.

173 Families served (250 invited were produced, however 77 were either no show, or not distributed)

Approximately 560 children will received gifts.

86 volunteers onsite the day of, plus the Boy Scouts from Friday night, so probably shy of 100 volunteers total.

Prepare Him Room

In the story of Jesus’ birth, we’re told that he was born in a stable because there was no room at the inn. The Bible doesn’t actually mention an innkeeper, but the poor guy gets a pretty bad wrap for someone we’re not even sure existed because of this. Yet, it didn’t end there, Jesus often found that people didn’t have room for Him. The Jewish leaders didn’t have room for Jesus, neither did King Herod or the Romans, they all saw Him as a threat or problem. Most of the people didn’t have room for Jesus either because He wasn’t what they expected or wanted Him to be. Today many people still don’t have room for Jesus because inviting him into their lives and hearts would mean real change. Yet despite all of our reservations, the great Christmas carol Joy to the World proclaims, “Let every heart prepare Him room.” So can we make room? Are we too busy? Too afraid? Too proud? Are we closed to Jesus or can we make room for Him and all He wants to bring to and do in us?

This Week's Message!

“Make Room for Joy” (The Angels)

Luke 2:8-14 & Philippians 4:4

The angels announce the world changing news that Jesus the messiah had been born, who would bring with Him the gift of joy. Can we make room for Him and the joy He brings?

Special Christmas Offering

Each Christmas we collect a special Christmas offing that is divided to support a Local Mission and a Global Mission. You can use the Christmas Offering envelops, make a note of it on the memo line of your check or select the Christmas Offering option when making your online donation.

Local Missions Christmas Offering:

The Local Missions portion of the Christmas offering will be to meet needs of the winter shelter plan and the warming packs. For more information on the Warming Packs and other shelter needs see the Local Missions article in this newsletter.

Global Missions Christmas Offering:

This year the Global Missions portion of the Christmas Offering will be designated to help our ministry partner in Honduras, Orlando Japas. He leads Union Biblica and is among the leadership of the community church Sala Evangelica. Our support will help deliver food and medicine to people in Seguatepeque, Honduras with reduced incomes caused by Covid-19. It will also assist a variety of Union Biblica ministries that have been affected by Covid, such as teaching school youth character traits, leadership, and how to develop healthy relationships. You can experience this ministry first hand by participating in IMPACT and joining the Honduras team.
