“I began this painting the same way that I begin most of my abstracts – with no preconceived idea of what the painting will look like. Painting for me is all about the process: the physicality of the paint, the energetic brushwork, the frenetic mark-making and writing-like scrawl, and combining this with quiet areas of peace and harmony, with the room to breathe. The titles always come afterwards, when I sit back and take the time to understand the painting I have just created. This piece reminded me of a town on fire, of the beauty of such destruction, thus the title “London’s Burning”.”
