CYWP MEMBER NEWS
Invitation to Red Cross Week 2015 Open Day

Every year, Red Cross Week aims to increase awareness of the work they do both abroad and in the UK, and raise over £1million to help people in crisis.  The British Red Cross works across Cornwall helping people in crisis by visiting people at home after hospital, providing essential mobility equipment or offering support after an emergency.  Last year, their services reached nearly 3,000 people in Cornwall.

The British Red Cross is hosting an Open Day extravaganza on Tuesday 5th May 11.00 – 2.00.  Individuals and organisations all welcome.  Visit the Cornwall headquarters in Truro and meet volunteers and staff who run the organisation’s operations in Cornwall.

Young People Share Their Views on Cancer Support

Philip Rimell volunteered with Healthwatch Cornwall to research what people aged 16 to 18 understood about cancer and the how they would prefer to receive information and support.

The report highlighted that 82% of those who took part did not feel there was enough information aimed at their age group, with older generations being targeted more, and although most young people sought information through the internet they would like to see age-related information materials such as posters in health settings as a way to raise awareness. To view the full press release, please click here.

Healthwatch Cornwall now has a YouthWatch website page that aims to highlight the work it is doing, useful information and news from other young people-related organisations. The website is a work in progress and Healthwatch Cornwall is keen to hear from young people about what they would like to see on the page. To share your views or to discover how you can get involved, visit the website or if you want to chat with Healthwatch Cornwall, call the advice line on 0800 0381 281.

However, a number of charities are added to the Trust’s grant funding portfolio each year. For these new applications, The Trust focuses on a particular theme and this changes from year to year. The Trust’s current theme is 'supporting innovative education or training projects that benefit disadvantaged young people'.
